Job Summary

The University of Kentucky, Department of Radiology seeks an exceptional academically motivated Diagnostic Medical Physicist for a full-time clinical faculty position in the Medical Physics Division. The successful candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent in Medical Physics, be board-certified or board-eligible by The American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic and/or Nuclear Medicine Physics, and have a minimum of 5 years of related clinical experience with a strong foundation in all imaging modalities. Academic rank will depend on qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate will join our team of Diagnostic Medical Physicists (2) and Physics Assistant (1), more than 50 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, and more than 30 trainees.
The essential responsibilities of the Medical Physicist include:
• Develop techniques used to standardize and calibrate imaging equipment, directly impacting the quality of diagnostic, therapeutic, and radiation safety procedures used to deliver patient care.
• Assure the safe and effective delivery of radiation to achieve a diagnostic or therapeutic result as prescribed for patient care as directed by the Chief Medical Physicist.
• Perform and/or supervise the technical aspects of procedures necessary to achieve this objective throughout the large and complex health system.
• Ensure protection of the patient and others from potentially harmful or excessive radiation: establishment of adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry, measurement and characterization of radiation, determination of delivered dose, advancement of procedures necessary to ensure image quality, development and direction of quality assurance programs, and assistance to other health care professionals in optimizing the balance between the beneficial and deleterious effects of radiation in compliance with applicable Federal and State of Kentucky regulations.
• Assist fellow/resident/student academic curricula including classroom/workshop/laboratory teaching
• Participates in diagnostic imaging and medical physics meetings, and other scientific meetings and conferences, to learn and disseminate state-of-the-art information.
• Performs other duties as assigned
