Your role as an Associate Engineer on the Furniture, Lighting and Decor team means working hand in hand with designers and other engineers who create products that truly embody the intent of Target-owned brands. Has the ability to differentiate and add value to our growing number of owned brands, including design partnerships. Can you ensure that each product has that just-right mix of style, quality and value? Do you love to create technical product solutions that help meet strategic business goals? Then you’ll have success on our talented and innovative team. Here, you’ll partner with our quality and compliance teams to understand performance testing protocols and develop products that meet them. Your work can help identify technical specifications and quality standards like raw materials, fit and function, construction details and dimensions. You’ll leverage collective expertise to suggest improvements to cost of goods, assembly, sustainability and ROI. You will also collaborate with vendors to ensure that the brand vision is clearly understood and successfully brought to life with every product we offer. 

As an Associate Product Engineer, you will develop and execute the technical development process that ensures product adherence to the quality standards established for Target-owned brands. Under the overall direction of the Director, you will interpret designer’s concepts, usher product through its development lifecycle, and provide technical product guidance to design, sourcing and merchant teams. You will be responsible for understanding the business’ initiatives, product functional requirements, and performance expectations to ensure consistency of product while proactively supporting technical solutions. In addition, you will support and be responsible for providing effective product technical specifications and product quality standards to include: raw materials, fit/function, construction details, and product dimensions. In partnership with internal and external partners, you’ll ensure the brand vision is appropriately executed, work to identify and address manufacturing issues, and co-develop products. Likewise, you’ll stay current on benchmarks for specified product categories to ensure Target product meets or exceeds the performance of the competitors’ product.

About You: 

  • Four-year degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Product Development, or related field, or equivalent experience

  • Understanding of testing, safety and legal requirements for consumer products

  • Understanding of applicable raw materials and their performance and usage

  • Familiar with 2D and 3D CAD software packages

  • Passion for product development with an eye for design

  • Ability to build strong relationships in order to successfully work in a team environment
