Responsibilities

This position is for a large contract for the Army, providing leadership and support existing systems, processes, and policies as well as working to implement new technologies and processes in support of the clients mission to provide Intelligence training and technologies to military personnel.

The Network Engineer designs and plans network communications systems. Provides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecture. Conducts cost/benefit analysis and provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. Conducts testing of network design. Responsible for monitoring network hardware operations to ensure properly set configuration options. Plans implementation of enhancements and upgrades to the network. Advises network users of hardware requirements, configurations, and limitations. Maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc. Evaluates and reports on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network. May be assigned responsibility for the management of the systems administration function, including associated staff


Qualifications

A Senior labor category has over 10 years of experience and a MA/MS degree and typically works on high-visibility or mission critical aspects of a given program and performs all functional duties independently. A Senior labor category may oversee the efforts of less senior staff and/or be responsible for the efforts of all staff assigned to a specific job.

Must have a current TS/SCI clearance.

Degrees in the following subjects are preferred but relevant job experience can be a substitute for the following areas of study:

  • Computer science
  • Computer software/computer systems engineering
  • Computer systems and networks
  • Network security management

Desired certifications:- Although certifications are not a job requirement, one or more of the following would be considered strengths:

  • CompTIA Network+ ...
  • Cisco CCNA and CCNP. ...
  • Cisco CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure and CCIE Enterprise Wireless
  • SolarWinds Certified Professional
  • Wireshark WCNA.

As well as the above formal qualifications, the following attributions or qualities are desired:

  • Analytical, problem solving mindset
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Effective Time Management across multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to follow processes
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Good communications skills both written and verbal
