Upon resumption of normal operations, this role may be performed at our New York, New York office.

Take an active role in the exciting and consistently evolving regulatory landscape. The lawyer will not only provide regulatory advice, but also be integral to HSBC’s involvement in policy discussions through our government relations team and be a leader on behalf of the Bank at various trade associations. This position has a broad remit, and the attorney will have substantial opportunity to shape their own career path. The attorney will join a closely-knit team of regulatory lawyers who support HSBC’s US investment banking, markets, and asset servicing operations

You will be responsible for:

  • Demonstrated basic understanding of the requirements of the Dodd-Frank Act and associated regulations relating to swap dealers and security-based swap dealers, including applicable SEC, CFTC, and NFA rules and regulations.  Also some understanding of Prudential rules and regulations helpful, but not required.
  • Interacting with regulators, in particular, SEC, CFTC, NFA
  • Partner with the business on projects to implement material changes to financial services regulation (with a particular focus on complex cross-border matters)
  • Represent HSBC in industry groups (SIFMA, ISDA, IIB) discussing proposed new regulations or changes to existing regulations
  • Support HSBC’s U.S. Government Relations team in their communications with regulators and policy-makers
  • Taking active roles in regulatory implementation projects, risk meetings, and steering committees. Help to develop strategies and risk-based alternatives to address open interpretive questions
  • Potentially support Futures and Clearing Business, Basel implementation, or work on HSBC’s U.S. resolution plan (if candidate has interest).
  • Support the Bank’s diligence into digital assets, including monitoring recent regulatory developments and executive orders.
