ADP is hiring an experienced Senior Manager -- Performance and Scalability Engineering with demonstrated experience in building, optimizing and scaling enterprise applications across private and public cloud with a passion for improving client experience. We are looking for a qualified candidate to join our growing engineering team in Pasadena, CA. In particular, those with a passion for directing teams to build high performance backend systems while solving problems around fault tolerance, reliability, scalability, consistency, availability, throttling, and queueing. This associate will direct both project and functional management efforts during the software development lifecycle. Collaborate with other development related functional areas such as architecture, product management and project management to ensure products meet high quality. Staffing management including hiring of full time and contingent personnel, career planning, training, and performance management. Does this sound like you?

You will be part of the Shared Service DevOps team leading performance, scalability, reliability and observability of our many next gen as well as legacy products. We look for self-starters who thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment being able to change direction quickly, and showing an eagerness to learn new technologies as the need arises. This position requires strong hands on technical, leadership and presentation skills dealing with all levels of management. You will be part of agile environment working with multiple teams of talented engineers, product owners & other stakeholders continually developing, deploying and testing application software who are geographically disbursed between U.S and India.


  • Lead an Agile engineering team in improving the Performance, scalability and reliability of our enterprise products by identifying the area of opportunities in systems, architecture or code and recommend optimizations.
  • Instrument and analyze systems to understand usage and client behavior patterns. Develop performance and scalability models to measure and meet the continuously changing needs of our products.
  • Improve observability and reliability of our platforms by helping strengthen our overall monitoring, logging and problem identification capabilities with a goal to reduce MTTI and MTTR.
  • Own and drive the design, development and transformation of Performance engineering services as federated commodities for consumption within our Infrastructure as Code, CICD and auto-healing frameworks.
  • Be an advocate for client experience across our products, collaborate with key stakeholders including Product Management, development, architecture and engineering to drive performance and scalability improvements.
  • Act as a Product manager for Performance engineering team to formulate internal roadmap, prioritize work, resource planning, testing and delivery.
  • Direct the development of procedures and policies related to Performance, site reliability and scalability engineering. Monitor and drive efficiencies within the team's operations.
  • Build a strong culture centered around technology innovation, pay for performance and integrity. Effectively manage Associates performance; drive engagement, attract and retain key talent.
  • Keep up to date on technological changes, especially with regard to job-related languages, operating systems, tools and methodologies. Stay current with skills required for job assignment and progression to further knowledge, skills and abilities. Act as an expert source of general technology and application knowledge.
  • Demonstrate position-appropriate business, people and market leadership.
  • Ensures that all projects meet time and budget constraints while ensuring that specifications are met and high-quality products are delivered.


  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or relate technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant software and engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of people management experience.
  • Experience managing and working with globally distributed teams.
  • Track record of attracting, developing and retaining key talent; building high performing teams.
  • Proven experience as Sr. Manager of an engineering, development and or similar role.
  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of large scale technology platforms, infrastructure management and their specifications.
  • Knowledge of SOA, Event based and microservices architecture.
  • Strong hands-on experience with performance and scalability management of Kubernetes Containers, ECS, Fargate, Lambda, Kafka, SpringBoot, Java and Python based applications.
  • Expert level knowledge in Problem identification and triaging of complex multi-tier systems through the use of Profilers, APM solutions and other custom solutions.
  • Strong experience developing services and REST APIs.
  • Excellent problem solving, excellent interpersonal skills and analytical skills, ability to think strategically and logically.
  • Strong organizational skills, tracking multiple development tasks simultaneously and can synthesize concrete results.
  • Experience in application development using Java and Spring framework (Spring Data, Spring Integration, Spring Cloud modules).
  • Experience in developing Kafka producers and Consumers.
  • Knowledge of Oracle, NoSQL database like Mongo DB and respective performance characteristics.
  • Knowledge of Angular, MongoDB and Python is a big plus.

  • Experience a mix of products from the most modern techonologies to some legacy products that are more difficult to scale. 360 degree experience exposure in scaling for greenfield to brownfield.
  • Exposure to many business verticals to learn about all spaces with great breadth of exposure.
  • Technology perspective - have the opportunity to work on a slew of technologies outside ofJava, (Python, Analytics based products, Database, Networking Concepts)
  • You can expect some hands on technical exercises in the virtual round focused around Java/Python development understanding, JVM internals and idetifying problems within an application using a Use Case and explaining your thought process.


  • Strong organizational skills, tracking multiple development tasks simultaneously and can synthesize concrete results.
  • Possess a strong sense of ownership for the Technical architecture of product.
  • Background in Application Observability with Comprehensive Logging, Metrics, and Tracing.
